Charlotte Edwards, a two-time WPL winner with the Mumbai Indians, has been appointed as the head coach of the England Women’s cricket team by the England Cricket Board.
Former England captain and cricket legend Charlotte Edwards will replace Jon Lewis in this role, overseeing the team across all formats. Edwards expressed her excitement about returning to the England team in a leadership position.
"I am so delighted to once again be part of the leadership of the England Women's cricket team, and I cannot wait to take this team forward and drive us to success," Edwards said regarding her appointment. "It means the world to me to have the three lions on my chest once again."
She reflected on her past experiences, having passionately led the England team for 10 years, during which she was a five-time Ashes winner and a two-time World Cup winner. Edwards emphasized her enthusiasm for working with the talented group of players at her disposal.
"Leading England as captain was my life for 10 years, and I will forever be passionate about this team and our legacy. We have such a talented group of players, and I am excited about working with them and improving them both as individuals and as a team," she stated.

Edwards began her coaching career in 2017 as an assistant coach for the Adelaide Strikers in the Big Bash League, where she spent five years. She then coached the Southern Brave in The Hundred, leading them to consecutive finals and securing one title.

Her big breakthrough came when she was given the opportunity to feature in the newly formed Women’s Premier League (WPL) team Mumbai Indians. She guided them to victory in the inaugural season in 2023, and she helped them win their second title in 2025. She concluded her franchise coaching career on a high note and is now ready to take on the biggest challenge of her career.
The managing director of the England Women’s cricket team expressed his enthusiasm for Charlotte Edwards' appointment as head coach, highlighting her winning abilities and deep knowledge of the game.
"She is a proven winner; she has won repeatedly as a player and now as a coach. She possesses a deep understanding of the game, both in England and internationally, and she recognizes the importance of creating an environment that is both challenging and supportive. We are delighted to appoint her as Head Coach of the England Women's team and are hugely excited for what’s to come," he said.

Charlotte Edwards's first challenge will be a home series against the West Indies, starting on May 21 in Canterbury.
