Chennai Super Kings (CSK) won by five wickets against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the 30th match of the Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025) at the Ekana Stadium on Monday.
Chennai Super Kings kicked off their chase of 167 runs with a blazing start. Openers Shaik Rasheed (27 runs off 19 balls) and Rachin Ravindra (37 runs off 22 balls) took the attack to LSG’s bowlers, capitalizing on the powerplay.Â
Rasheed, on his IPL debut, looked confident, stroking six boundaries with flair, while Ravindra played the perfect foil, finding gaps with precision.Â
By the end of the sixth over, CSK had raced to 59/1, with Rasheed falling for a well-made 27 runs to Avesh Khan, who provided LSG their first breakthrough.Â
The introduction of spin slowed CSK’s momentum as LSG’s bowlers tightened the screws. Ravi Bishnoi and Digvesh Rathi bowled probing lines, exploiting the two-paced nature of the pitch. Rahul Tripathi (9 runs off 10 balls), joining Ravindra, struggled to rotate the strike, and the scoring-rate dipped.
Ravindra, however, kept the chase alive before Aiden Markram trapped him, leaving CSK at 74/2. Tripathi fell in the ninth over to Bishnoi. At the end 10 overs, the score read 81/3.
Ravindra Jadeja (7 runs off 11 balls) was promoted up the order but could not do much as Bishnoi struck again in the 13th over to dismiss him.Â
Vijay Shankar (9 runs off 8 balls) also perished on the last ball of the 15th over, bringing MS Dhoni (26 runs off 11 balls) to the crease with CSK needing 56 runs of 30 balls.
Dhoni was quick off the blocks, smashing two consecutive boundaries in the 16th over off Avesh. He then tonked a one-handed six off Shardul in the 17th over. Despite getting hit for a boundary by Dhoni, Avesh bowled a brilliant 18th over, conceding just seven runs as Shivam Dube (43 runs off 37 balls) struggled.
Dube hammered a four on the first ball of the 19th over and followed it up with a six off a no-ball. Bishnoi dropped Dhoni in the same over. The CSK captain added insult to the injury and gathered another four to bring the the deficit down to five runs off six balls.
Dube completed the run-chase with a boundary in 19.3 overs as CSK defeated LSG by five wickets.
CSK are now at two wins after seven games and continue to be at the bottom of the IPL 2025 points table. LSG have lost three of their seven matches and occupy the fourth place currently.
