Sanju Samson injury

Rajasthan Royals (RR) head coach Rahul Dravid has shared a massive update about the injury of skipper Sanju Samson ahead of the team's clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on Thursday, April 24, in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) season. The RR batter was seen in visible discomfort when he played a shot against Delhi Capitals (DC). Samson subsequently missed the side's next match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). He also won't take the field against RCB today in Bengaluru.

RR coach Dravid explained the reason to keep the RR skipper out of the traveling squad and provided a major update on the recovery timeline of the right-hand batter. It is to be noted that Samson has had a pretty tough season so far in the ongoing IPL 2025 season. He only played as a specialist batter in the first three games for the Royals, and now, with the latest abdominal injury, the wicketkeeper batter has missed two of RR's games.

"Sanju, I think, picked up a bit of a side issue in the game against Delhi (Capitals), and he couldn't play the last match or this one either. He wasn't fit, and our medical team didn't clear him to play," Dravid told the press in Bengaluru on Wednesday.
"So, we took the medical advice not to risk him with further travel-two more flights would've been a strain. We kept the physio back with him so we could treat him and try to get him back as quickly as possible. We're monitoring his recovery on a day-to-day basis."

Rahul Dravid on Sanju Samson's comeback in IPL 2025 season

The RR head coach stated it was still early to predict when Sanju Samson will make a comeback in the ongoing IPL 2025 season.

"I don't have a specific timeline for his return, but we're doing everything we can. We've got matches coming up quickly and then a gap after the 4th. So, we'll just have to wait and see. As of now, he wasn't fit for this match, and that's why he didn't travel to Bengaluru," Dravid added.

Speaking about RR, they are currently placed eighth on points table, winning just two games from the eight matches that they have played. They take on RCB today, followed by a game against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on May 04.
