Jamie Overton is playing his first season in the IPL for Chennai Super Kings (CSK). He made his debut in CSK's match against Rajasthan Royals (RR). This is the first time that he is seeing MS Dhoni from close quarters, and he was taken aback by what he saw.
Though CSK might not be doing well as a franchise, the crowd at Chepauk has been roaring every time MS Dhoni walks out to bat. This is a sight that has left several foreign players in awe in the past.
This time around, it is Overton who has been surprised by the fan following of a certain MS Dhoni in the IPL. CSK is placed at the bottom of the IPL 2025 points table, but fans are flocking to the Chepauk just to see him bat.

The England pacer, seeing MSD's aura, recalled the moment when he walked out to bat at the Chepauk after Ravindra Jadeja's run-out.
"I messaged my dad and my agent after the first home game. I was like, 'You have to come out and experience MS walking out to the middle,'" Overton says. "[Ravindra] Jadeja got run-out… and you had a home crowd cheering for someone to get run-out. I've watched Premier League games, plenty of other sports events, and there's nothing else like that noise" he said to ESPN Cricinfo.

Jamie Overton has played three games so far this season and has batted and bowled outside his comfort zone. He has worked closely with Rajiv Kumar, CSK's batting guru and has been watching MS Dhoni closely, trying to pick his brains on how to hit sixes in the final overs.
"He holds the bat quite low with his hands, whereas I'm more an English or Australian version, with quite high hands. The spinners don't get as much bounce [in India] so I'm trying to be a bit lower, with my hands a bit more relaxed, so I can keep my head really close to the ball… I feel like I'm in a good place with my batting" Overton admitted, saying that he is trying to bat like the CSK skipper.
CSK are placed last on the points table and take on Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in their next game on April 25. They need to win all their remaining games to give themselves a chance of making the playoffs.
