Indian Head Coach Gautam Gambhir and Sanju Samson were spotted in an intense conversation after the net session, ahead of India’s opening clash against UAE in the Asia Cup 2025.
With speculation building around Sanju Samson potentially losing his opening slot to Vice-Captain Shubman Gill, the wicketkeeper-batter’s place in the playing XI appears uncertain. The middle order is already stacked with all-rounders, and Jithesh Sharma who is more suited to a lower-order role is also part of the squad as the second wicketkeeper option.

However, Sanju seems well aware of his situation. In the recently concluded Kerala Cricket League, he batted in the middle order for the Kochi Blue Tigers, averaging over 70 with four consecutive fifties and a match-winning hundred. His performances were crucial in guiding the team to their maiden KCL title..
Having shown his adaptability, Samson made a strong case for himself as a middle-order batter.. In the recent IPL season too, he often came in at No. 3 or 4. Based on his form, his focused net session, and that animated discussion with Gautam Gambhir, it is expected that Samson will slot in at No. 3 and take up the gloves as India’s first-choice wicketkeeper for the Asia Cup 2025.
