Matthew Mott will replace England coach Charlotte Edwards as Sydney Sixers head coach in the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) for the upcoming 2025 season. Mott, who relinquished coaching the England Men's team after the T20 World Cup 2024, will also continue to be assistant coach to Greg Shipperd for the Men's Sixers team in the Big Bash League (BBL). Notably, Mott's return as a head coach of a women's team will mark his return three-and-half years after he stepped down from the role as Australia coach after the ODI World Cup victory in 2023.
Edwards stepped down from the head coach's role for the Sixers after she was appointed as England Women's Team coach. The Sixers announced on Friday, May 09, that Mott had signed a two-year deal with General Manager Rachael Haynes, demonstrating a strong belief in building a ruthless and winning culture.
