Jasprit Bumrah was released from the squad for the ongoing fifth Test against England at The Oval. He had played three of the five matches in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy with the team following the workload management plan. The decision was taken before the series began to avoid any chances of injury.
India’s next assignment after the Asia Cup is a two-match Test series against West Indies starting October 2.Â
If Jasprit Bumrah were to play the Asia Cup final on September 28, he would get only a few days to prepare for the Tests. The team management may not risk him in the upcoming Asia Cup, considering his fitness record.

Report Reveals Why Gautam Gambhir and Ajit Agarkar May Rest Jasprit Bumrah for Asia Cup 2025
The Asia Cup 2025 was originally slated to be held in India but was shifted to the UAE due to political tensions with Pakistan. India’s group includes the UAE, Pakistan, and Oman. Their first game is scheduled on September 10 against the UAE. They will lock horns with Pakistan on September 14. Their final group fixture will take place versus Oman on September 19.
If India were to reach the final on September 28, Bumrah would have just a few days to recover before the first Test against the West Indies scheduled to begin on October 2 in Ahmedabad. Given his fitness history and recent injury concerns, the BCCI’s selectors and team management are expected to weigh the risk of playing him in back-to-back series.
"It will be a tricky call, but Bumrah loves Test cricket and there are World Test Championship points at stake. As far as T20 is concerned, he can play the series against New Zealand in January, which will be a dress rehearsal for the T20 World Cup," a BCCI source said as quoted to PTI.
"If Bumrah plays Asia Cup and suppose India plays the final, no way can he play against West Indies at Ahmedabad. Obviously, the question arises, do you need Bumrah against West Indies or he plays Asia Cup after a month’s break and plays the two Tests against South Africa. That call, Ajit Agarkar and Gautam Gambhir will have to take," the source added.

Jasprit Bumrah's Injury History and Long-Term Planning
Since 2022, recurring back injuries have forced Bumrah to miss several major tournaments. He was absent from the 2022 Asia Cup and T20 World Cup that year due to a back problem.
Bumrah suffered another back injury during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. This ruled him out of the Champions Trophy 2025.Â
With such a history, the Indian team management wants to ensure that he remains fit for important assignments, including the upcoming home Tests and the T20 World Cup next year.
