Indian Test opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has reportedly reaffirmed his commitment to the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), withdrawing his earlier request to switch to Goa for the 2025-26 domestic cricket season.Â
The 23-year-old, who had sought a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the MCA in April to explore a leadership role with Goa, informed the association of his decision to stay with his home team.
Yashasvi Jaiswal’s initial move to leave Mumbai, where he rose from living in a tent at Azad Maidan to becoming a global cricket star, had stunned fans and analysts. He had cited the opportunity to captain Goa during periods when he was not on national duty as a key reason for his request to move to Goa. However, after reflecting on his deep ties to the city, Jaiswal chose to remain with the 42-time Ranji champions.

Yashasvi Jaiswal to Stay with Mumbai, Writes Email to MCA
Jaiswal formally communicated his change of heart in an email to the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), accessed by The Indian Express, citing a shift in personal plans as the reason for staying with his home team.
"I the undersigned would request your goodself to consider my request in withdrawing my NOC given to me as I had some family plans in shifting to Goa which for now has been curtailed ! So I sincerely request MCA to allow me to play for Mumbai this season ! I have not submitted the NOC to BCCI nor to Goa Cricket Association," Jaiswal wrote in an email to MCA, assessed by The Indian Express.
The MCA is yet to take a call.
The initial request had raised eyebrows, as Jaiswal, a Mumbai native who rose from living in a tent at Azad Maidan to international stardom, seemed poised to follow in the footsteps of other former Mumbai players like Arjun Tendulkar and Siddhesh Lad, who have represented Goa in recent years. Goa, having won the Ranji Trophy 2025-25 Plate Group final, also offered Jaiswal a potential leadership role during periods when he was not on national duty, adding to the appeal of the move.Â
"Goa has thrown me a new opportunity and has offered me a leadership role. My first goal will be to do well for India and whenever I’m not on national duty, I will be playing for Goa and try to make them go deep into the tournament. This was an (important) opportunity which came my way and I just took it," Jaiswal had told The Indian Express.

Yashasvi Jaiswal’s Recent Outings for MumbaiÂ
Adhering to the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) mandate to play domestic cricket when not on national duty, Jaiswal featured in Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy campaign last season, though his scores of 4 and 26 against Jammu & Kashmir were modest, and an ankle injury sidelined him for the semi-final against Vidarbha.
As Mumbai gears up for the upcoming season, Jaiswal’s commitment is a shot in the arm for a team eager to reclaim its domestic legacy.Â
