As per reports in India Today, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has confirmed the construction of a second cricket stadium in the district.
With UP having cricket stadiums in Kanpur and Lucknow, Adityanath has now confirmed that a third stadium is all set to be constructed in Gorakhpur. The international cricket stadium will be located in Gorakhpur, with plans for a large sports center covering 33 acres in the Raptinagar area.
The report further said that the announcement was confirmed during the inauguration of Gorakhpur's first mini-sports complex on January 3, 2025. The UP CM emphasised on promoting sports at all levels. He stated that sports fields are being developed in every village, alongside mini-stadiums at block and district levels to foster local talent.
Adityanath further emphasised that the stadium will have a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, ensuring high-quality training and infrastructure for athletes. The construction of the new stadium aligns with the aim to boost several other sporting disciplines in the district.

The construction of the new stadium also allows the state government to give more employment opportunities and raise the state's revenue in the process. There are also plans in place to enhance rural sports to boost the sporting culture at the village level.
UP To Have Four Cricket Stadiums After Gorakhpur Construction
Uttar Pradesh already has two stadiums in Kanpur and Lucknow. Kanpur recently hosted a Test match between India and Bangladesh. While the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow is home to the Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL. The stadium was built in 2017 and was renamed as The Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium. The venue also hosted matches in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023.
Apart from venues in Kanpur and Lucknow, the Uttar Pradesh government has also built a new stadium in Varanasi which is expected to be completed by 2025. The Varanasi stadium is expected to have a seating capacity of atleast 40000. With the stadium in Gorakhpur, UP will now have four cricket stadiums.
