Champions Trophy 2025 - IND vs NZ: Virat Kohli Injured in Practice Session

A wave of concern swept through the Indian fans as reports emerged of an injury scare surrounding Virat Kohli, just ahead of the highly-anticipated Champions Trophy 2025 final scheduled between India and New Zealand on March 9 in Dubai.

The incident involved a delivery from a pacer that struck Kohli near his knee during a practice session on the eve of the final, as reported by Geo News. Immediately following the impact, Kohli halted his practice.

The Indian team's medical personnel quickly attended to Kohli. They applied a spray and bandaged the area. While the incident caused visible discomfort, the veteran batter remained present at the practice ground.

The 36-year-old stayed to observe the remainder of the team's training, seemingly to reassure both his teammates and the coaching staff about his fitness. Following the practice session, team management confirmed that the injury was minor and there is no concern as regards to Kohli's participation in the upcoming title clash against New Zealand.

While there are no fitness concerns in the Indian team, New Zealand might take the take without their key pacer Matt Henry, who injured his shoulder in the semi-final against South Africa.

Virat Kohli in red-hot form in Champions Trophy 2025

Kohli has been top run-getter for India in the tournament so far. He has scored 217 runs in four matches at an average of 72.33 and a strike-rate of 83.14. He is only 10 runs behind England’s Ben Duckett in the list of leading run-scorers. He also became the first batter to score 1,000 runs in ICC knockouts.

Having smashed a century against Pakistan and an 84-run knock in the semi-final versus Australia, Kohli would want to extend his good run with the bat.

As far as India are concerned, they have had a perfect campaign, winning all of their matches as of now. The last time the Men in Blue faced New Zealand, they beat them by 44 runs.
