Ferguson contributed significantly before being dismissed for a well-made 85 that came of just 43 deliveries. It was Watson's knock that truly stole the show. He delivered a spectacular century, his third of the season, showcasing his enduring power-hitting ability and reminding everyone of his class.
Following Ferguson's dismissal, Ben Dunk, the centurion from the last match, joined Watson at the crease, and the Australian run-rate continued its upward trajectory. Dunk provided valuable support, ensuring that the momentum established by the openers was maintained. He smashed 34 runs off 16 deliveries.
The South African bowlers, already demoralized, struggled to contain the flow of runs. They were unable to find any consistency and were punished for any errors in line or length. All the bowlers conceded runs at an economy of over 11.
Watson remained unbeaten on 122 runs as Australia finished their innings at 260/1. This is Australia’s fourth-consecutive 200-plus total in the tournament. In their previous game versus India Masters, they hammered 269 runs, which is the highest total in the competition so far.
