Which Players Might Make The Cut For Asia Cup 2025

Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav is back at NCA and has started his rehabilitation after his recent sports hernia surgery. He is eyeing a comeback in the continental cup and is working towards getting fit for the tournament.

India recently drew the Test series against England 2-2 and will now have a break for the remaining month before they dive into the Asia Cup 2025. This will be Surya’s first major T20I tournament since he became the captain after the T20 World Cup last year.

As per reports, the BCCI will be announcing India’s Asia Cup squad in the third week of August. Not to forget, they are the defending champions of the tournament, having won the title in 2023. Meanwhile, in this article, we will try and predict India’s probable 15-member Asia Cup squad.

Batters: Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sai Sudharsan, Suryakumar Yadav

Shubman Gill’s T20I comeback is making the news across reliable media outlets. His comeback has been spurred by his recent performances with the bat in the recently concluded Test series against England. Yashasvi Jaiswal is also in line for his T20I comeback. Sai Sudharsan, who made his T20I debut against Zimbabwe last year is being considered for a recall as well, along with SKY, who is returning back after a surgery. With Rohit Sharma retired, Gill might open the batting with Jaiswal with Sai slotted at three and SKY at four. This might be the top four for the Asia Cup.

Wicketkeepers - Sanju Samson, KL Rahul

Samson and Rahul might be the two keepers. While the selectors have given Samson the long run in T20Is, Rahul might be retained in the side, given his consistent performances against England. Also, with Rishabh Pant ruled out from the Asia Cup with a broken toe, Rahul might play as the backup keeper. Ishan Kishan was supposed to replace Pant in the Test series, but as per reports, he met with an accident and his latest health condition is yet to be revealed.

All-Rounders - Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar

Hardik Pandya, by all means, will return as one of the three possible all-rounders in the lineup. Axar Patel might be included in the side as the left-arm spin option with Ravindra Jadeja retiring from T20I cricket after the end of the T20 World Cup. Washington Sundar might retain his place in the side, given his performances in the recent Test series.

Pacers: Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh

Arshdeep Singh is a sureshot inclusion in India’s T20I side as he is the highest wicket-taker for India in the format. Siraj has been ever-present for this Indian team and has played almost every game without his workload ever being a concern. There are concerns regarding Jasprit Bumrah playing in the tournament. He did not play in the final Test at The Oval and by the time the tournament starts will have enough rest for him to make a comeback. Harshit Rana can be seen as the fourth seamer option. He has always been penetrative in the T20I format.

Spinners: Kuldeep Yadav, Ravi Bishnoi

Kuldeep Yadav was not considered for a place in the XI for the Test match. However, he is very much India’s primary spinner in T20Is, with no place for Yuzvendra Chahal in the side and Jadeja retired. He is expected to play all the matches and work his magic in the dry surfaces in the UAE. Ravi Bishnoi can be considered as the other spinner, with most of his deliveries coming in and troubling the batters.
